Tricia Johnson initially qualified as a Registered General Nurse, however, with a strong desire to work with children she diversified into childcare and education. She has a breadth of experience in Early Years, both practical and theoretical having worked at the Norland College for 14 years managing different childcare areas caring for children from birth to 9 years and providing practical training and assessment for the students. During this period of employment she was also involved in multi-agency work and involved with writing the guidance for the National Standards for the Regulation of Childcare (2000). Having gained a Master’s Degree in Early Years she moved into Further Education as Head of School for Health, Social Care and Early Years and then into Higher Education as a Senior Lecturer and subject specialist at Buckinghamshire New University where she lectured on the FdA Early Years and the BA Practice Development Early years. She was also an assessor for Early Years Professional Status and Early Years Teacher status. Her main area of interest and research is the emotional needs of very young children linked very much to the provision within early years settings, observing and responding to their learning needs and interests using the outdoor areas and natural resources. This has led her to further explore Froebel’s Principles and Practices in more depth, to train and be appointed as a Frobel Travelling Tutor.
