Chapter overview

In this chapter we have chosen a transitions lens on an ecological model to address contemporary issues around wellbeing, play, curriculum, and leadership in the evolving Scottish early childhood world: a world which itself has made significant transitions and where change has been a constant factor. As authors we come together from three different contexts within ECEC in Scotland, representative of research, policy and practice in Scotland.

Chapter objectives

To provide an overview of research on transitions
To present a critical explanation of transitions policy in Scotland
To demonstrate the realities of transitions through case studies of practice.
To set out key issues of the future of transitions in Scotland and beyond.
